Shooting Style
My ultimate goal is to create timeless, elegant portraits to document the early moments of your newborn’s life.
Trendy vs Timeless
I’m a contemporary photographer rooted in classic portraiture, and I shy away from trendy Photoshop embellishments and fads like oversaturated colors and textures. Instead, I capture and provide natural images that document real moments from your newborn’s life. No artificial sweeteners. No added preservatives.
You can see this mentality in the products I offer as well. From albums to folios, my aim is to provide you with timeless, elegant heirlooms that you’ll be proud to share with your grandchildren.
Getting technical
All of my portraits are created using natural light. I don’t use flash because I don’t want to scare or discomfort your child. Additionally, I use as little equipment as possible in order to minimize the overwhelming feeling of inviting someone into your home.
As you can tell from the sample images, I focus primarily on classic, black and white portraiture. I prefer black and white because that’s how my mind thinks when I photograph using natural light. I do include color photographs as well, but my images are primarily black and white.
How it’s done
I take very intimate, close-up portraits, which is a bonus for you because very little of the surrounding room will be visible in the photograph. (Yay! No cleaning!) I ask that you help me create a comfortable spot on the floor (or table) next to a large, bright window. Once your baby is comfortable, I’ll crawl down to eye-level to begin taking photographs. Depending on how comfortable your newborn is, I’ll ask your help adjusting positions in order to create a variety of images. And I’ll certainly count on your expert help as cheerleader and noise-maker throughout the session!
What happens next
After returning to my office, I work through each image to ensure consistent contrast. I’ll upload the files to Pictage, my premier partner for online proofing, for you to view and share with family and friends. After that, I begin working on any additional products you’ve ordered.
